What is SDRAM?

SDRAM stands for Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory.

Let’s break it down:

Synchronous — works in sync with the system clock

Dynamic — needs constant power and refreshing

Random Access — any location can be accessed directly

Memory — stores data for the CPU

The key word is “Synchronous”,  unlike older asynchronous DRAM, SDRAM syncs with the system clock so the CPU knows exactly when data is ready. Faster and more efficient.
